1.Using a Dish Soap
2. Using Ammonia
Using ammonia to clean gold jewellery could be caustic, and this can damage gold if not used properly. You may occasionally use this method for old gold jewellery engraved with dirt.
Here is the process of cleaning gold jewellery with ammonia:
Step 1. Add liquid ammonia to water and stir the mixture to form an even combination. The ratio of ammonia to water should be 1:6.
Step 2. Rinse your gold jewellery in the liquid and let it soak for less than 1 minute. Then quickly remove the jewellery piece using kitchen tongs or a pasta strainer.
Step 3. Rinse the jewellery thoroughly with running water. You may use a stainer to wash the gold piece to remove all the chemical substances and dirt.
Step 4. The final step is to dry the jewellery with a dry cloth and let it sit for a few minutes before wearing it.
3. Using Boiling Water
Using boiling water to clean gold jewellery is one of the best and easy ways. However, it could be harmful if not done professionally.
There is no problem in cleaning gold jewellery with boiling water unless it contains gemstones that could loosen very easily with high temperatures.
Step 1. Bring water to boil so much so that the jewellery is submerged. Always use a container that is not sensitive to heat, such as a metal container or a pyrex glass container are the best. Then place the jewellery in the container and ensure that none of the pieces is covering each other.
Step 2. Carefully Add enough water to the container so that it is completely submerged. Please do this step with safety precautions and gently as possible.
Step 3. Wait for the water to cool before immersing your hand in the water. Now you may notice the water has turned dirty, do not worry; the impurities of the gold have caused this.
Then gently use a soft toothbrush to remove the extra dirt on gold jewellery, place it on a dry cloth/towel and wipe off all the water and impurities. Voila, your gold jewellery is ready to be worn.
